The overall goals of the Research Department of Music & Media Technology are the development and analysis of applications for new music and media technologies in respect to scientific, educational, artistic/cultural and economic purposes.: 

• music technology/music electronics (instruments and technology)/acoustics/audio and studio technology
• musical computing/computer-based music analysis and interpretation/virtual instruments
• electronic music production and processing/music and media/distribution, promotion and reception of multimedia contexts (film/video, TV, radio, internet, data carriers)
• organization of congresses and symposia
• multimedia distribution, storage, representation and structuring of musical or music-related information 
• scientific, artistic and educational aspects of historical and modern music technology
• publications with topics in music & technology
• cooperation with other organizations and institutes
• interactive and adaptable teaching and learning systems (ear training, music theory, classroom-related analysis, simulation of special music fields)

• computer-based and internet teaching/ learning music/ telelearning, virtual music seminars/lectures  
• hard- and software-based sound synthesis
  
• informational management, analysis and distribution in datanets (music knowledge in general, Web- and Electronic Publishing)  
• Development of interactive services (academic publications, online databases on "Music and Technology" as well as music education teaching material)
